Automobiles in Germany's City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

An important official stated the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
