Trump's Framework of Punishment and Favor

Trump's insatiable appetite for revenge has rapidly transformed into a methodical apparatus. During the past year, the chief executive's fury and caprices have taken on the shape of official policies in ways comparable to historical dictatorial systems. Government figures who resist his demands are summarily removed and replaced by loyalists. Critical officials who challenge him face indictment, judicial process and sanctions. Critics have been labeled under executive directives as “anti-American”, “anti-Christian” and “against free markets”, and threatened with criminal charges as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Remade

Each instance involving legal action of political opponents and immunity for his allies exhibits its own unique characteristics. Yet, despite their specific nature, they exemplify manifestations of what has arisen as a deliberate technique. Those events are anything but random. His cleansing of Department of Justice attorneys and FBI officials, alongside his appointment of loyalists in high-level positions, commenced rapidly, quickly developed a consistency, and has now been formed into a system. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into political organizations under Trump's clear direction to carry out his directives. Injustice has been made standard. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Administration is preoccupied with targeting the chief's supposed opponents than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the Structure

The beginnings of this mechanism has been exposed in the court filing of three former high-ranking Federal Bureau executives lodged in the ninth month in the judicial system in the capital against agency head a senior appointee and justice department head a key figure for wrongful dismissal in “a effort of payback against Plaintiffs for what administration figures considered to be a failure to exhibit proper devotion”. In the complaint that one official, the previous interim leader, recounts a discussion in which he “publicly acknowledged the illegality of his conduct”.

The official had attempted to protect law enforcement officers from being dismissed, the complaint alleges. He informed him that “White House figures” – understood by Driscoll to be the White House and DoJ – had ordered him to dismiss anyone who they identified as having been involved in a legal probe against Trump. The document adds: “He clarified that he had to fire the people his leaders told him to fire, because his capacity to retain his own position was contingent on the removal of the officials who worked on cases involving the President. The director commented that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau sought to put the leader in jail and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When Driscoll told the director he was disregarding the FBI's own internal rules, the director reportedly said “he understood that and he was aware the essence of the immediate dismissals were likely improper”.

Extensive Consequences

Following Patel's alleged confession to him, the justice department and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and repurposed for Trump's revenge apparatus. Multiple of the bureau's senior executives were fired or forced out in the first days of the government. Roughly thousands of lawyers at DoJ have taken a “deferred resignation program”. No fewer than seven government attorneys, such as those in the New York office, quit in protest over what they considered as partisan influence in dropping the legal action against the city leader, Eric Adams, in exchange for his collaboration with his ICE arrests of immigrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which manages ethical violations, has been diminished to two attorneys. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: 70% of its personnel has resigned. One-third of executives at the justice department have quit. The section implementing environmental law has lost a majority its supervisors.

Incentives and Sanctions

Regarding the Adams case, the acting US attorney for the federal division, the official, stepped down in objection against what she labeled as the “trade-off”. The border official, Trump's “border czar,” was present as the implementer with him on Fox News to declare: “Unless he complies, I'll be back in the city.”. Meanwhile, another figure, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the agreement, was granted an court role, a potential stepping stone to the highest court.

The president's exemption for crimes perpetrated while in power, provided by the remarkable decision of the Republican majority on the judicial body, thus blocking his legal action over the Capitol riot and maintaining his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the cornerstone on which he stands to protect his loyalists. With such immunity, he has been empowered to authorize wrongdoing. The impact of the judicial ruling infuses his presidency and the Republican Party completely. The legal case has spread. Similar to Richard Nixon's administration lawyer John Dean remarked about the Watergate
